DAY 1 : CHIANG MAI – LISU VILLAGE (L, D)
Pick up from Chiang Mai hotels and travel out of Chiang Mai by air-conditioned
car/mini-van (drive time approx. 3 hrs) along picturesque scenery through
the sharp curves and steep drops of the Mae Taeng district. En route we
enjoy a picnic lunch and take a short trek down the valley to a White
Karen Village where we spend the rest of day discreetly witnessing their
lifestyle and customs. Dinner and overnight in Karen village.
DAY 2 : LISU VILLAGE – KAREN VILLAGE (B, L, D)
After a simple, yet hearty breakfast and a cold wash, we pack our bags
and we set off on a 3-hour trek through the lush, dense, tropical forests
to a typical Skaw Karen village, where residents still practice age-old
traditions. Here, a picnic lunch will be served, followed by a small rest.
We then continue with a memorable 2-hours trip on the back of an elephant
along trails and creeks to a White Karen village on the riverbank for
dinner and an overnight stay in the village.
DAY 3 : KAREN VILLAGE – CHIANG RAI (B, L, D)
A simple breakfast at the village, followed by an exploration of the surrounding
Mae Taeng area with a 4-hour raft trip down the curves and rapids of the
Mae Taeng River. We then enjoy a Thai lunch at a river lodge before we
head out to Chiang Rai for check in to a comfortable resort on the bank
of the Maekok River. Dinner and overnight at the Rimkok Resort. Guests
with some energy left can try out their bargaining skills at the Chiang
Rai night market.
DAY 4 : CHIANG RAI – CHIANGMAI (B, L)
American breakfast at the hotel, then depart for a full day tour around
the most northern area of Thailand. We will proceed to Chiang Sean to
visit the remains of the ancient city dating back over 700 years. We drive
along the famous Mekong River to the exact spot where Thailand, Laos and
Myanmar (Burma) meet, known as the “Golden Triangle”. From here, we take
a boat trip upstream to the notorious Golden Triangle for lunch at a local
restaurant. We then drive back to Chiang Mai to check into respective
hotels.
