PERU - The archaeological, cultural and ecological jewel of Latin America
Heir to ancient cultures and a rich colonial tradition, Peru is a magical spot which has one of the richest biodiversities on Earth. For hundreds of years before the Incas, other sophisticated civilizations flourished across Peru. From the Inca splendour of Machu Picchu, to the verdant jungle waterways of the majestic Amazon, to the rich artistic expressions of its people - Peru has something for everyone.
When to go
In Lima and the coast, Dec-April are the warmest, sunniest months. In the highland areas like Cuzco, the driest months are Jun-Oct which is considered the best time for this region. The Amazon's wet season is generally Oct-May .
What to see
Lima is a mix of architectural styles with fantastic colonial treasures such as the Gold Museum. South of Lima lies Paracas, an area of diverse wildlife and Nazca - site of the world famous ground markings only visible by air. The spectacular Colca Canyon (larger than the Grand Canyon) and Arequipa known as the "white city". North of Lima are the cities of Trujillo and Chiclayo, homes to the incredible archaeological sites of the Sican, Moche and Chan Chan civilizations. The Amazon basin is a rich area of bio-diversity and wildlife. Visit Lake Titicaca and the floating Uros Islands. Undoubtedly, the highlight of any trip to Peru is one of the most well known ancient cities of the world, Cuzco, which is also the departure point to the sacred valley of the Incas, Pisac and the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu.
